2018 Christmas Lunch

11th December 2018, East India Club

Join us for our annual Christmas lunch. This year’s festive celebration of Christmas and Byron will include a three course meal, wine, and a talk from the fabulous David McClay on his new book, Dear Mr Murray, a collection of letters from the Publisher’s archive that make up some of literature’s most significant moments, including:

• Jane Austen complaining about the printing delay of a specially bound copy of Emma she wants to dedicate to the Prince Regent.

• George Bernard Shaw responding to John Murray’s rejection of Man and Superman.

• A literary adviser who recommends publication of Darwin’s observations on pigeons rather than On the Origin of Species.

• William Makepeace Thackeray apologising for his bad behaviour at a dinner.

Not only is this a brilliant addition to our lunchtime programme, but this book will make the perfect Christmas gift for friends and family.

More details of the event, pricing and menu will be available closer to the time.
